Where we are

The White Cottage lies halfway between BISHOP'S CASTLE and CLUN in the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty that is the South Shropshire Hills. It nestles at the base of BLAKERIDGE WOOD looking over to the iron age hill fort of BURY DITCHES, and to SUNNY HILL and CAPTAIN'S COPPICE.

We are in a brilliant position for some spectacular driving, walking, biking and even gliding and hang gliding. OFFA'S DYKE, THE SHROPSHIRE WAY, THE JACK MYTTON WAY, THE KERRY RIDGEWAY and THE LONG MYND are all very nearby. Our two local towns are each only three miles away and provide food, drink - six pubs and two breweries in Bishop's Castle - and often live music. Bishop's Castle has a Michaelmas Festival and Christmas Lights Festival. Clun is known for its Green Man Festival and Music Festival.

Several other historical towns, villages and sites offer interest and given our position near the Welsh border the variety of them is endless. LUDLOW, CHURCH STRETTON, MONTGOMERY, and HAY-ON-WYE to name just a few, are between them well known for good locally produced food and ale, farmers' markets, restaurants, historical sites and castles, a very special gliding club, bookshops galore and, indeed, food and literary festivals.

Accessible heritage sites abound and to name just a few, Ludlow Castle, Powys Castle, Attingham Park, The Ironbridge Gorge Museum, Berrington Hall and Dudmaston are all in easy striking distance.……
